Mike Krause

Mike Krause became a member of the JMBE team after 15 years in public policy and higher education leadership roles, including service as a state higher education executive officer, a senior staff member for Governor Bill Haslam, and as the founding director of Tennessee Promise, the nation’s first free community college program.

A proud adult learner, Mike attended college as a non-traditional student after serving in the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He began his higher education journey as a community college student and was later awarded a bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University and a master’s in public policy from Vanderbilt University. He holds the Chartered Advisor to Philanthropy designation.
